Gold for Farewell Flowers!
Farewell Flowers’ exhibit
The judges @rhs_chelseaflowershow awarded @farewellflowers Directory no less than a GOLD medal last week for their first (and Chelsea’s first) exhibit of truly personalised and foam-free funeral flowers.
The stand showcased how funeral flowers can be reconsidered and brought into open discussion using the beauty of flowers to aid conversations about topics that often remain hidden. The garden encouraged thought about meaningful tributes whilst shining a spotlight, on a global stage, on the increasingly more urgent need for plastic-free funeral flowers.
As a member of the Directory I volunteered to help on the stand and spent the day talking to the public about the display and its message. An overwhelmingly positive response had remained consistent throughout the week. Many had seen the @BBCnews coverage and had prioritised visiting as they arrived at the show, eager to let us know how beautiful they thought the display was.
Gill Hodgson MBE and Queen Camilla
The team on the last day of the show.
1000 yellow tags were displayed around the stand, all written on by visitors who described what they thought they’d like their funeral to be like. Some were entertaining, some jovial, but all represented engagement with the exhibit and its positive message.
The last day was exciting, constantly busy and we had a great team of Directory members- a huge contrast to a solitary working day in the garden!
With another flurry of photos for the last social media updates we ended the day with deconstruction of the display, selling the contents (by demand), and in no time it was gone and we all left on a high.
